Marina Gal was born and raised in Riga, the capital of Latvia. In 1980, she immigrated to
Israel with her family. At a very young age, her father gave her her first camera as a gift and
taught her the initial and basic aspects of photography, from operating the camera to
concepts related to composition and photographic perspective. From that moment Marina
has been attracted to photography, however she returned to it only in Israel. Over the years,
she studied with several photography teachers, the first of whom was David Hadar, who
gave her confidence and motivation to continue in the field. Later, she studied with Giora
Salmi, Eldad Rafaeli, and Gaston Zvi Ickowicz, the photographer who has been accompanying
her creative process to this day and has also edited this book.
Marina has held two solo exhibitions:
“The City in Hues”, at Bauhaus Center, Tel Aviv, 2007
and “Side Views on Main Roads”, at Office in Tel Aviv Gallery, 2010.
In addition, she has participated in several group exhibitions and in The Album: Israel
Photographers 2006, published by Photo Art Books.
The Reminiscence project is a summary of a photographic journey that spanned several
years. In it, Marina observes the landscapes of her childhood and youth through family
albums, memories, and annual photography trips to Latvia.
